Avengers as Expected
Maybe it’s because I never cared for the Avengers comic books as a kid. Or that I hadn’t seen any of the Hulk, Thor, Captain America, or Hawkeye (yeah right) movies.
Or maybe it was because my opinion was formed while freezing at a drive-in in El Monte, California.
But I don’t see what the big deal is with the Avengers movie.
It had some effective action sequences and some witty banter, but really, the best superhero movie ever? Not even close.
The phenomenal success of the Avengers movie only shows that people are desperate to belong to “the next big thing” and are willing to overlook an average product in order to buy into the hype.
For my money, the best superhero movies ever are still The Dark Knight and Spiderman 2. The former because of its enormous scope, and the later for the intensity of its character arc. And both for their mastery of filmmaking style.
The Avengers is just action comedy meets Battle of the Network Stars.
